LinkedIn is not a resume. It is a landing page. A recruiter, a former colleague, a potential board contact, and a curious peer all arrive at the same URL and form an opinion in fifteen seconds. Your job is to make those fifteen seconds work for you.
1. Lead with a headline that promises value
Skip the job-title-only headline. Write a line that names the role you do, the outcomes you drive, and the audience you serve. 'Senior Product Marketer helping B2B SaaS teams turn positioning into pipeline' works far harder than 'Senior Product Marketing Manager.'
2. Rewrite your About section as a story
Three to five short paragraphs. Open with what you do and who you help. Anchor with two or three specific outcomes. Close with a warm invitation, whether that is 'open to conversations about X' or a specific link to work you are proud of.
3. Treat Experience like proof, not chronology
Each role should lead with a one-line summary of scope, then two to five bullet points that focus on outcomes and scale. Numbers, names, and specifics beat responsibility lists every time.
4. Optimize for search
Recruiters run keyword searches. Include the exact role titles and skills you would say yes to, both in your headline and in your About section. Fill out the Skills section with the terms your target roles actually list.
5. Turn on the right signals
Turn on 'Open to Work' privately for recruiters, keep your location and remote preferences current, and add a professional photo plus a subtle banner. Every signal you give makes it easier for the right people to find you.
6. Post to be known, not to be famous
One considered post a month is enough. Share a lesson learned, a framework you use, or a short story from your work. You are not trying to go viral; you are trying to look like a thinking practitioner to anyone who lands on your profile.
Your LinkedIn should quietly do work for you every day. Optimized well, it becomes an ambient career asset, one that keeps opening doors long after you have logged off.
